Scope and Contents Archaeological note and story about the Carradh in Bearnary [Beàrnaraigh/Berneray] stating that it had writing on it which no one could read except one priest by the name of Ailein Donullach [Allan MacDonald] who could speak twelve languages. The story tells how a crew of fishermen who were stranded on Berneray amused themselves 'by shaking the carradh pillar to and fro. Scope and Contents Archaeological note entitled 'Hoilisgeir' [possibly Trolaisgeir/Trollasker, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist], which reads 'Remains of house eye of Kiln + fire place (sorn) + dyke on top of Pabby Harris 50 acres lost.' [Pabbay, Na Hearadh/Isle of Harris]. The note also states that there is lime on ruins at Kildonan [Cill Donnain, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] and that a Mrs Macgill[ivra]y said she saw it when she was a 'lassie' and that it had 'tangles sticking out'. Archaeological note on a burial site at Dungaineach [Dùn Gaimhnich/Dunganichy, Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula] stating that it is at the 'bealaich on the machair' and that beside it was a heap of bones and ashes. The graves are surrounded 'by stones on edge with lintels across top of the lintels [causewayed] over with small peb[bles] carefully.' Carmichael adds that there is a similar place at Carnan Dhiarma[i]d in Iocar [Ìochdar, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist]

Archaeological note on Tarasaigh/Taransay sites exposed by coastal erosion describing how faces of the bank are left exposed by the sea and how layers of shells and darker sand with the ends of buildings can be seen and how 'By the side of some old and beautifully built expose[d] wall is the root of the gallan at least 4f[ee]t down fr[om the] sun.'

Scope and Contents Archaeological note relating to a stone found on Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula by Archibald MacRury, Bailevanaich [Baile Mhanaich/Balivanich] described as being a small stone with a hole and found in the strand at half-tide 'just below tunga' that summer at Ua Oirisy Mianaish an underground cave between Roisnish and Scarigleoid [Uamh Orasaigh Mheanais, Orasaigh, Meanais, Ròisnis/Rossinish and Sgaraileòd]. Archaeological notes about Totachain Ghreotais [possibly at Rubha Greòtach, Pabaigh/Pabbay] probably collected from Roderick MacNeil, aged 88, crofter, Miùghlaigh/Mingulay, describing them as about sixteen yards in circumference 'On the side of a hill facing the sea S[outh] E[ast]. The found[ations] visible only on lower side...about 2 feet.' Also described are sheilings built over and behind the remains.

Archaeological notes and sketch plans of An Teampull Mor and Teampull Beag, Pabbay, Harris [Teampull Mhòire and Teampull Beag, Pabaigh, Na Hearadh/Isle of Harris]. The plans note the dimensions of the buildings and possibly their position in relation to one another. Carmichael describes the completeness and thickness of the walls and how the east end of the side walls 'bulge out very considerably'. He notes that, 'The building was got up inside boards as concrete cement is used now.'

Archaeological notes and sketchs of Dun Loch an duin and Sinedal [Dùn Loch an Dùin and Sionadail Tarasaigh/Taransay] describing how Dùn Loch an Dùin is 'a round dun on a small lake with a clachan straight to it' and as being 'up & entire within the mem[ory] of people living'. The sketches show it in profile and in plan, noting some of its dimensions. The sketch of Sionadail notes a small mill or millstone and the measurements of a raised cross on the upper stone.
